I was inspired to paint the portrait of an African boy, so people could see life through his lens. For you to see what it is for a disadvantaged, underprivileged child growing up in a world that doesn't care about them. Yet despite all of this, when you look into his eyes, what is it that you see?
All children, regardless of their background, have the basic human right to education, to grow up with access to clean water and adequate medical care. And yet 1 in 3 people globally do not have access to safe drinking water – UNICEF, WHO I choose to use my art as a voice for all those children who do not have one. To the governments and other civil organizations who have a moral responsibility to stand up and be counted, that time is now.

We need to create a cultural space for young black boys to see themselves in mediums, that typically were inaccessible to them. Fine art as a form exists for all, and this painting is a precursor to a life in which it is known that impossible is nothing.
